Doing our part.

As innovators in the sport of track and field Gill is not only committed to providing new and exciting products, but to keeping up with the ever evolving needs of our customers. With the rise of the green movement, a new influx of green building codes, eco-friendly materials and products, and environmentally conscious consumers have risen too.

By providing information on our products, working to implement sustainable practices in our manufacturing and offices, choosing materials wisely, and educating ourselves and our customers on 'green' practices we are working to do our part to make sure future generations of runners, jumpers, throwers, and vaulters have the opportunity to participate in the sport we love: track and field.

The Plan.

To facilitate the US Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program, we will be researching and posting relevant information on this site. In doing so we will helping our customers earn credits in the various credits of the LEED system. Three main categories apply to Gill products, these we will be specifically addressing:

Recycled Content:
MR credits 4.1 and 4.2 are earned by utilizing at least 10% or 20% recycled materials in the building project. The builder must know the percent recycled for each material, split up by pre-consumer and post consumer recycled content. Pre-consumer is material recycled during the manufacturing process that cannot be claimed in the same process that created it. Post-consumer is recycled material that is diverted from the waste stream, like when consumers recycled aluminum cans.
See credit example.

Regional Materials:
MR credits 5.1 and 5.2 are earned by utilizing at least 10% and 20% materials regionally extracted and manufactured. The materials must be wholly produced within 500 miles of the job site.
See credit example.

Low emitting materials:
EQ credits refer to environmental quality (indoor installed products only). In this category points can be earned by using low emitting paints and coatings, low emitting adhesives, and Composite woods that are urea-formaldehyde free.
See credit example.
