High School Discus Cages

Gill High School Discus Cages are designed to the 34.92° throwing sector configuration.  The 8030 steel pole cage has the traditional six pole layout and incorporates 14’ tall rolled steel offset poles.  Eighteen inch steel flip arms secure the 14’ by 56’ net at the front two poles with ground stakes used at the back poles.   The nylon net has a breaking strength of  200lbs.

The new 8020 aluminum pole cage incorporates seven 14’ tall rolled aluminum offset poles.  This new design allows the net to extend straight forward from the sides to comply with NFSHSA 34.92° sector requirements while providing a less “restrictive” feeling for throwers.  Thirty-four inch steel flip arms secure the 14’ by 68’ net at the front two poles.  Nets are constructed of #504, weather-treated nylon with a breaking strength of 200lbs.

731135 Discus Sector Net

340lb. break strength discus net stands 2’ tall x 60’ long.  Held by 3/4” diameter steel net poles and ground stakes.  Effectively stops shot or discus from rolling or skipping outside of the throwing sector.  Use one net to cover the shot put sector.  Use 3 for the discus sector.  Polyethylene net spools included for convenient storage and handling.

732250 Portable Indoor Throwing Weight Cage

Used in training and competition for the indoor throwing weight, our indoor cage has been redesigned to use the enhanced portability of our new free standing cage net pole assemblies.  Unique aluminum door hinges and cantilevered steel door frame have replaced the heavy steel door hinge post.  Door bases are fitted with two 6” wheels which allow the door assemblies to be rocked back and moved on and off the throwing area by two people.  Once in position, four 5 gallon jugs, filled with water or sand, secure the door assemblies and net poles in place.  The net is constructed of 340lb test, 42A knotless weather-treated nylon.  This cage utilizes three 14’ aluminum net poles and two aluminum/steel door assemblies.

Portable Discus Cages

The 732220 Portable High School Discus Cage has six 14’ tall aluminum net poles and weighted base assemblies with 8” wheels.  This cage can be set up to conform to the 34.92° throwing sector for competition (as required for the 2007 track season).  The cage can also be opened up to conform to a 40° or 60° throwing sector for practice if field conditions allow for a much larger landing zone.  The 14’ tall by 56’ main net is constructed of #504 weather-treated nylon netting with a breaking strength of over 200 lbs.

Gill Portable Cages

The Gill free standing cage net poles are fabricated from 2  7/8” O.D. x 0.203” wall aluminum tube.  Net poles have a 33” rolled offset and are mounted on a heavy steel base.  Bases are fitted with two wheels which allow the poles to be rocked back and the assembly easily moved on and off the field by one person.  Once in position, four 5 gallon jugs, filled with water or sand, secure the net poles in place.  To reduce or eliminate net sag, cages employ either a vinyl coated steel net support cable, or galvanized net support tubes between the first two net poles.  Nets have a 1 7/8” mesh and are made of weather treated nylon.  They are secured to the bases by replaceable shock absorbing bungee cords.  Optional 8’ outer barrier nets are available for these cages. 732250 doors are a durable and unique combination of a steel frame and aluminum door with a fold and lock feature, so they to can be rocked backed and moved by two people.

NCAA Discus Cages

Gill NCAA discus cages come in two heights; 4 meters for the 731130 steel pole cage and 5 meters for the new 732130 aluminum pole cage.  Both cages come with a narrow mouth layout which greatly reduces the size of the landing danger zone without impeding a good throw.   For practice fields where conditions allow for a larger, safe landing area, the front four poles can be installed in a wider opening configuration.  Nets are constructed of 340 lb test, 42A knotless weather-treated nylon.  Nets are secured to the ground with steel flip arms at the front four poles and ground stakes at the back.

The new IAAF Aluminum Stadium Discus Cage supports a taller 5m net and meets IAAF requirements for the 34.92° landing sector in a stadium.  The 732140 has a 6m wide mouth positioned 7m in front of the circle center.  The 5m by 24.8m net is constructed of 340 lb test, 42A knotless weather-treated nylon.  Net is secured to the ground with steel flip arms at the front four poles and stakes in the back.  The cage utilizes nine 5.25m tall rolled aluminum net poles set in 0.9m deep ground sleeves.

Aluminum Discus Cages

Gill rolled aluminum discus cages are fabricated from 2 7/8” O.D. x 0.203” wall aluminum tube.  Each pole has a 33’ rolled offset and stands in a 30” to 36” deep ground sleeve.  Ground sleeves are schedule 40 PVC pipe and will not rust.  To reduce or eliminate net sag, cages employ either a vinyl coated steel net support cable, or galvanized steel net support tubes between the first two net poles.  Nets have a 1 7/8” mesh and are made of weather treated nylon.  Weighted steel flip arms secure the end of the net at the cage mouth.  Optional 8’ outer barrier nets are available for these cages.

Steel Discus Cages

Gill rolled steel discus cages are fabricated from 2 1/2 square, 14 gauge steel tube finished with durable white powder coat paint each pole has and 18” rolled offset and stands 14’ tall in a 20” deep ground sleeve.  Cages employ a vinyl coated steel net support cable to reduce net sage, ensuring maximum net height, and 14 ft tall weather treated nylon nets.  Overall mounted net height exceeds 13’2” (4m).  Nets are secured at ground level with stakes.  Optional 8’ outer barrier nets are available for these cages.

732100 NCAA Hammer/Discus Cage

The 732100 is designed for a single hammer or discus circle.  When utilizing a discus circle, a Gill 362 Hammer Conversion Circle is to be used for hammer competition.  Over all cage height is 23’ including the movable doors.  Main net is supported by eight 21’ tall rolled net poles.

Hammer Cages

All Gill hammer cages comply with, or exceed NCAA guidelines for hammer cage construction adapted to the new 34.92 degree sector rule. Net poles are 4” diameter, 7/32” wall, 6061-T6 rolled aluminum with a net offset of 40”. Shock -absorbing hinged bars secure the net to the ground. 14’ width movable doors are made from the same material as the net poles and incorporate taught ¼” galvanized steel cables to support nets at door ends. Vertical door hinge poles are fabricated from 3 ½” (4” OD), schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe. Doors roll on two 10” heavy duty fixed casters and are triple netted for maximum safety. Net and door poles are installed in 40” deep vertical ground sleeves constructed of galvanized steel. All cage netting is 765 lb test, #84 knotted weather treated nylon. Main net is fully supported by a galvanized steel tube from the door pole to the first net pole at the specified height. Optional 8’ tall outer barrier nets are an available accessory.
