Team Pacer Girls Take Second, Third

February 28, 2010 In the women's USATF National pole vault competition, two Team Pacer girls Chelsea Johnson (15'1") and Becky Holliday (14'11") came through to earn second and third places respectively. The competition had a rocky start owing to some missing equipment; April Steiner-Bennett's poles had accidentally been taken to the airport along with the men's poles. A member of the field crew rushed to the airport to retrieve them and Steiner-Bennett performed admirably with a fourth place finish (14'7.25").

Two girls on the younger end of the spectrum, Katelin Rains (PR 4.40) and Mary Saxer (PR 4.30) made a good showing, each jumping 13'11" but leaving the real jumping to the seasoned pro's like Lacy Jansen- the victor-ess in the competition with a jump of 15'3".

Miles takes Second on Misses

February 27, 2010 The USATF National Men's pole vault competition, featured on the first day of the event, was a crowd-pleaser. 2010 being the first year the city of Albuquerque has hosted this National track meet, the stands were sold out with many of the seats filled by locals who came out to see the spectacle. The competition had a good mix of vaulters from the up-and-coming Mark Hollis and the 43-year-old Pat Manson. In the end, it was 2004 Olympic Gold medalist Tim Mack who came out victorious with a jump of 18'8.25" (a foot below his personal best) and our own Team Pacer member Derek Miles with second place jumping the same.
